If you were to die today do you know where you would spend eternity? The fact of the matter is although we are alive today, there is coming a time when we will all die. It’s certainly not the most enjoyable thing to think about but just like we have insurance for our cars, homes, etc. we should make plans for our eternity.

Eternal Life in Heaven is a free gift

Romans 6:23 says the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1. It is not earned or deserved

Ephesians 2:8, 9 states that “For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

It’s important to understand that You cannot “earn” your way into Heaven. Many people say “I’m a good person” but good people make mistakes too. Bad people also can do “good” things, but their “good” could have an ulterior motive. Simply put it is not based on your “works”.

• Man is a sinner, therefore cannot save himself.

Romans 3:23 states that “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”  We respect the court when we see justice. We should expect God to be just in how He deals with us.

Sin is an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law. This can include lying, lust, stealing, evil thoughts, fornication, adultery, etc.

• God is merciful.

God does not want to punish us but because He is just he must punish sin.

God solved this solved problem in the Person of Jesus Christ

Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, rose from the dead and purchased a place for us in Heaven.

Isaiah 53:6

Jesus bore our sins on the cross and now offers us eternal life in Heaven as a free gift. Romans 10:9-We receive this gift through faith.

When we speak of faith, we are speaking of saving faith versus mere head knowledge. The devil believes that there is one God, so believing that God exists would not be considered saving faith. It is trusting in Jesus Christ and what He has done versus what we have done to get to Heaven. Romans 10:13-Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

If you would like to receive the gift of eternal life in Heaven you can repeat this prayer. Lord Jesus I believe You died and rose from the dead to purchase a place in Heaven for me. Please come into my heart, forgive my sins and save me. I repent of my sins and place my trust in you for my salvation. Thank you Jesus.

Romans 10:9-10 NIV

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

If you have repeated this prayer just know that John 6:47 states that …I say unto you, he that believes on Me has everlasting life.

There may be times where you don’t feel “saved” just remember your prayer and keep your faith!
